Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Viet Tien delivered his speech at the conference

Speaking at theconference, Deputy Minister Nguyen Viet Tien said that in the past two decades, Vietnam has made significant progress in implementing the program of action of the International Conference on Population and Development . With the socio-economic development of the country, the health status of the Vietnamese people, especially in reproductive health and sexual health has been greatly improved. By 2015, the contraceptive prevalence rate would be 80%, and the maternal mortality rate would be 60 / 100.000 cases. With these advances, Vietnam is one of the few developing countries that has achieved the millennium goal No 4 and No 5 by 2015. Although the goals are at the national level, the inequality in reproductive and sexual health remains in poor and vulnerable populations. In the coming years, beside the policies of socio-economic growth encouragement, sustainable development and social security, Vietnam will continue to focus its efforts on mitigating and eliminating disparity and inequality in health care in general and reproductive and sexual health in particular for the the achievement of sustainable development goals.
